Please give what you can...
“Money is not the only need in Haiti, People are frightened, bewildered, and wholly uncertain about their future. In addition to what people can do in helping with food, water and shelter, there needs to be a calming influence over that troubled nation. We invite people everywhere to supplicate God for a spirit of calm and peace among the people.” First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

the "olden days"
We are spring cleaning out here. Scott found his scout uniform bandalo with all the merit badges.
Here's Carter's view of the "olden days"...
"Dad, what are these badges for?" Carter asks.
They are what I earned when I was a Scout (Scott)
"You mean in the olden days?" (Carter)
Yes, the olden days, Carter. (Scott)
"You mean when there was no TV, dad?" (Carter)
Well Carter, in my days there was always TV it was during Grandma Sue's days that TV came out. (Scott).
So, what's the take home message? Clean out your stuff and find out that you too lived in the "olden days".
Ahhhh, those were the days!

Will Sled for Snow
2010... We were very busy welcoming in the new year. Playing with cousins and getting crazy!! All the hype and excitement carried over into midnight on new years eve. All except Sperry, who fell asleep at 11:45 pm. (more like collapsed between couch pillows and deep in slumber land). You almost made it...but celebrated in a way that I like to: deep in dreams. Thanks to everyone who helped us feel warm in very cold temperatures!!
Barbie never looked so good
Sperry and I set out to do some quick, no sew clothes for her new Barbies from Christmas.
Here's the fashion show. We made skirts for the "older" Barbies and dresses for the "younger" ones.
Self stick velcro and wrapping the fabric can go a long with with a little girl!!

Self stick velcro and wrapping the fabric can go a long with with a little girl!!
First, find a cute and excited little girl to help you pick out colors and cut velcro!
Layered skirt: cut out a circle. Cut a hole in the center (for the waistband). To layer: cut a a smaller circle in a complimentary fabric and
cut a hole in the center. Apply a velcro tab to close the waistband.
Red Wrap: cut a long rectangle. Wrap barbie diagonally and velcro where needed.
Girls sundresses: Use existing sundress for pattern, lay it on your fabric and cut around. Cut slits for arm holes. cut ribbon and attach "Brad" to the center-point of the ribbon. Glue the back of the ribbon (covering the "brad" tails. Apply velcro where needed.
Watch out Mattel, it's Mommy fashion!!
Loads of Love
I'm in the mood for Valentines Day. I think of how wonderful it is to tell people how much you love them...maybe we should celebrate it every day. Here's the things I love today:
Scott. He is the kinder, more gentle side of myself. He is the one who keeps calm through the storms, and I love him for that. I love how his heart is focused on our little family. He is sweet and together, we make a great team. My kids. How much fun are they? Well, nothing else could make me into more of a homebody except my great kids.
I love all the goodies of Valentines Day. But, this valentines day will be different that all the others... I will be going sugar free. My sister, Kristin, will be starting radiation for the big "pink ribbon" illness. She doesn't want any cry babies on her team (so, I am learning to be strong and brave, like she is). So when she learned about the hair falling out, I asked her what else she was having to face. She told me about giving her body all the healthy things it needs to fight. One of the things she is doing is being a very healthy eater...and going sugar free. So, as a girl who is normally crazed about sugar and all the deliciousness of bakery items, I am going sugar free.
I've learned that you can pray they can feel your love and the Love of the Lord. Now, that's the essence of Valentines Day. This year, instead of celebrating the "red" of valentines day, I will be heavy on the "pink". (and growing up: my sisters and myself all hated the color...pink).
It is day 3 and I have decided that toast with a little honey isn't sugar...it's "nature's candy".
