Jacob has been very active in finding names of his ancestors to take to the Temple. Because of his efforts, he was able to find a new branch in our family tree. Scott had been looking for several years for the family of Chrisitan Fredrich Rievers. When lived in the early 1800's in Germany, it can be quite a feat to find the names of your wife and parents.

Scott was trying to decipher old German script. Which, we learned is an art that is almost extinct. He contacted a researcher in Germany, posted the records on a German family history site, and consulted a few friends who also speak the language. Since Scott served his mission in Germany, he has kept up on this language, but even with all his efforts wasn't able to decipher out the spelling of the names listed. We had no idea it would be our son, Jacob, who would help to unlock the key to this mystery we have tried to solve for years.

Jacob found an old record that had been scanned from the original. This Iowa Death Record document was something that we had not seen before. In the document, it clearly listed the name of Christian's wife. So grateful for the blessing of turning the hearts of the children to their fathers. We have seen another piece of evidence for reckoning of the blessing again. Christian Friedrich Rievers and Magretha E Linn we are grateful for your marriage, lives, and hope to learn more about each of you.

Skiing, mano a mano style

Carter's stealth mode

Last week before the start of school for the day, I was checking Sperry and Carter to make sure they were getting ready. Normally Carter does a great job with this... but on this day, I found him laying in bed READING.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing my kids reading. But come on, before school? I didn't think there was any time for this. So I said, "Carter, reading is the LAST thing you should be doing right now!" He looked up at me and I noticed that he was reading from the Book of Mormon. I instantly had to correct myself, "Carter, looks like you know what you have to do to prepare for the day. This is the BEST thing you could be doing right now."

Sometimes, your kids know what is best. Sometimes, they don't need your prodding. Sometimes, they are preparing themselves to be better people.
