Trick or treat and a movie

Will work for trick or treaters! There's an epic Halloween house by us that draws a lot of kids. They are in a totally different league above us, but we thought, "hey why don't we try for a distant 2nd place". Really, we just wanted included on the treat route, so this year we had a spooky social and Charlie Brown movie on the garage door, a snack station with hot cocoa, blondies, brownies, set up camp chairs, and guess what the most popular item was... water. Just plain old water. Trick or treaters get thirsty in their costumes working hard for candy! After their water they enjoyed the treats and so did their parents. I am hoping the art of trick or treating never dies!

I love how Scott is always up for anything, I've tested this hypothesis a lot over the years. Scott even came home from work a little early so we could power up with sushi and then line the driveway with Christmas lights, set up a table, get out the snacks and candy. I guess we have started a tradition... which is a great way to do something simple again. Instead of waiting inside our house for the doorbell, we meet them where they are and took it out to the driveway. A BIG thank you to all the visitors that we had tonight. It was so fun hanging out with friends, helping teens get hot cocoa, meeting new people, and watching the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown 5 times. We saw some great costumes: nurses, princesses, Mario brothers with baby princess peach and mystery box, a pair of shoes, a sunflower with a real baby, Elf who is a personal fav, storm troopers, Jedi, Harry Potter people, rappers, dinosaurs and everything in between. I think my fav was our friend who made a DJ station including 2 rotating record turntables with music from an iPod (can I get a little Beck song here?). Thanks everyone and hope you had a very HAPPY halloween.  
ps: whomever was passing out potatoes, we heard about you and you were memorable. We want to meet the 94 years old who passes out hot apple cider. We wanted to meet the people driving around the decorated golf carts, life goals for another year.
pps: we are not good at the costume thing. So I'm wearing my cowgirl hat (which is also a beach hat) and Scott is wearing his beach hat. I have no idea what our costume was... but it's ok cause no one asked us.

Happy birthday Jacob Sargent, our oldest.

You know what I love about you? I love that you will find little ways to show someone you care about them. You quietly look out for the underdog, you love those who need to be seen, you help those who feel stuck, and you support your wife with every step. Anyone who knows you loves your sense of humor!! You have a quiet confidence that comes from daily finding a connection with Christ. You are smart and funny and have great taste in clothes, music and music. I watch as you support your adorable wife and share adventures together. You've had more adventures this year than I got to a grocery store! I mean who else camps outside of vegas with random donkeys on their way to CA? Pure adventurer. You make things a little better: you will sew a patch on your hat with your scouting skills. You bring the party, dance whenever you want to and you don't cares who's watching. You jump into things with your WHOLE heart. And don't get me started about your ability to thrift, to a new level. You will try new things like finishing a trail running ultra marathon. You don't want to stop the learning and getting a master's degree, that comes with a lot of new things! You get people going like starting a run club for students in Info Systems. AND I love how we share the habit of being too excited to wait to give or get gifts! Surprises are hard, but with Kamryn's help I know you can brake the habit I taught you (LOL). I love you. Go get all 24'd about life. It's ok if you have already eaten all the candy I sent you. Move forward with God and you will feel peace as the pieces of life continue to fit together. LOVE YOU!!

Sperry + Mason = engaged!

Sperry + Mason = 12.28.23 marriage (it's a hooray day!)

I love this engagement picture of these two. I can see what Marriage is... When you don't ever want this moment to end. When your whole life is wrapped so closely within the same goals and hopes and arms of another person, you want promise to always love them. When you love someone enough to listen, learn from, and share. When they want to hear all your stories of middle school. When you love who you are while with them. When you trust them and want them to trust you just as much. When know you better than anyone else. When you feel balance within your relationship. When you feel they are your gift from God and are so grateful for them. When you want to stay for the homework within your heart even on days you might feel weak and tired. When you can be all sides of yourself. When you can talk about everything and nothing. When your heart feels filled and fulfilled. When you want to be better because of how they see you. When you want to grow up together. When you choose them because they are the best person for you. When you want to kiss their face a lot. When you reach for their hand as they are reaching for yours. When you feel stronger and don't fear half of what you did without them. When you are ready to promise to build together, eat together, create a life and live together, pray together and love each other. That is when you know they have your whole heart, and will give you theirs.
