Life, it's doable. Thanks for all the wishes and notes as we celebrate 25 years. I wanted to share something we have come to love and look forward to. During our anniversary dinner, we make a list of "what do we want" and turn it into doable goals. A tradition that happened by accident over 20 years ago literally on a napkin, has become one of our favorite traditions. It represents our hearts, turning what we want into what we do. An annual snapshot of life within life's BIG picture.
Back then, we wanted a lot, but how did we get it done between games, kids, and work? When our kids were little, we wanted operate from a bigger picture. We wanted to instill what we loved and value, instead of feeling so reactionary running game to game. We wanted to have a little more of a family identity. But, how do you guide your family during the crazy busy times where a momma can be stretched and stressed? We use our anniversary dinner to take turns asking, "what you/we want". What began on a napkin, is something we look forward. And it's so cool when you see your kids ripple some of the same values.
Asking helps to break things into fun size, right size, bite size doable goals. It feels really encouraging instead of overwhelming. "How do we get there?" is the question that brings creative problem solving/basically bringing the party.
Another year comes, and I get to make another list with my husband. He has balanced me beautifully as we have carried what can feel big and helped them become beautiful. My whole heart belongs to my co-author of the annual napkin, Scott Sargent.
